In response to an anticipated shortage of vision care workers in the future, SAIT has launches two new eye care programs along with a state of the art million dollar lab to go with it.

“Be more versatile…”

Shay Gornshtein, the academic chair for the program and long time pharmacist says students taking this course will have alot of tools under the belt. “ So we have taken two supporting professions in eye care and have amalgamated them into just one program. this will enable our grads to be more versatile and to work more that one setting and to be just well rounded and prepared for practice.”

The program is fresh off a milestone as they saw 55 new students join this winter semester.

Alberta’s optical vision is facing a critical shortage with a 80% retirement expected in five years or more.
